Food quality Dogfood?

Food quality Dogfood ?

Advertisements claiming to promote "100% food quality dog food" have become increasingly frequent in the recent past.Given that regulations govern clearly the difference between food fit for human consumption and pet foods such descriptions are more than questionable.

The production of dog food is strictly controlled under the law. There is a requirement that all dog food production facilities are initially inspected and certified for such production and regular follow up inspections are made by the appropriate authorities. In addition it is strictly forbidden to manufacture food for human consumption and dog foodwithin the same manufacturing unit.

The authorities here go even further in that any piece of meat that is treated in any way within a certified pet food facility is automatically classified as an "Animal Byproduct". To be absolutely clear about this, were I to cross the threshold of our production facility with a prime quality Argentinian steak, this juicy filet steak would by definition turn into simple "Animal Byproduct".

What then differentiates Cleynes from those products which their suppliers suggest are "100% food quality"? Judge for yourself.......

In our canned food range, which meanwhile has grown to 38 different products, is composed of the following ingredients:

Dependent on the variety flesh from beef, lamb, game, veal, pork, ostrich or hare

Innards such as the heart, liver, lungs or stomach of these animals

Beef pharynx- and despite the fact that our dogs adore it- this is clearly defined by the Animal Byproduct legislation EG1774/2002 as a veritable "Byproduct"

Astonishing as it may seem, pharynx and even throat may be found in these theoretical 100% human food quality products. It would appear that a “magical transformation” has somehow taken place in a similar fashion to that of our Argentinian steak example- only this time in the opposite direction!  I can promise you that as soon as I manage to discover the secret of converting pharynx into human food I will let you know.. wait....better still....I shall sell the process to the butchers of this world and live well from the royalties! :o)

All meat used in the manufacture of our dogfoods comes EXCLUSIVELY from animals slaughtered for human foods.

Fish - Pollack, cod and mackerel

Dependent on the specific product we also include the following natural additions Vitamins: Carrots, parsnip, beetroot, peas, lucerne, leeks, tomatoes, spinach, apples, Goji berries, brambles, sweet cherries, plums, black currants, red currants, Aronia berries, Buckthornberries, Strawberries, gooseberries, raspberries apricots and blueberries

Carbohydrates: Rice, potatoes, pasta, sweet potatoes or porage oats

Calcium: Chicken carcasses

Minerals: Healing Earth

Oil: domestic, cold pressed rape seed oil

What then is the difference between Cleynes animal food and these other animal feeds with their supposed “100% food quality”. Truthfully … I do not know.

All I can tell you following a discussion I had quite recently with an administration vet from Munich that it is clearly forbidden to classify animal feedstuff as food for human consumption. But as he so neatly put it..... “where there is no claimant there is also no judge”

We shall simply have to wait and see whether some pedantic prosecution lawyer decides to take up this topic to determine what other human foodstuff may be found in dog food .

Cleynes , on the other hand, shall in the future, remain that which it has always been, a supplier of prime quality dog and cat food in which virtually all the components ( as noted above) could be prepared for your next meal at home on your own cooker .
